Precision Diagnostics in Oncology through Quantum Sensing—ONCO-Q

QT Sense launches ONCO-Q, a €2 Million JTF-funded project using quantum sensing to advance precision oncology in collaboration with UMCG and RUG.
ONCO-Q: Using Quantum Sensing to Transform Colorectal Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment

Groningen, October 28, 2025—We have been awarded a subsidy of nearly €2 million by the Just Transition Fund (JTF) to lead ONCO-Q—a breakthrough initiative aimed at revolutionizing colorectal cancer diagnostics through quantum sensing.

At the heart of the project is Quantum Nuova, QT Sense’s proprietary biosensing platform that uses diamond-based quantum sensors to detect oxidative stress in single living cells—in real time. This technology provides a functional, dynamic signal that complements traditional diagnostics such as imaging, pathology, and genomics.

Tackling a High-Impact Medical Challenge

Colorectal cancer is among the leading causes of cancer-related death worldwide. Despite advances in screening, current methods often lack the sensitivity or real-time data needed to personalize treatment early and effectively. Quantum Nuova adds a new layer of diagnostic precision by measuring oxidative stress—a key driver of tumor development and drug resistance—at the cellular level.

The ONCO-Q project focuses on validating this approach in clinical settings, building the foundation for earlier detection, smarter therapeutic decisions, and more personalized care pathways.

A Northern Netherlands Consortium of Innovation

QT Sense leads the ONCO-Q project in partnership with: University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), University of Groningen and Healthy Ageing Business Cooperative. Together, these partners are combining deep-tech innovation with clinical expertise to bring quantum sensing into real-world oncology workflows.

Strategic Support

QT Sense also acknowledges the early-stage support of QDNL Participations (QDNLP), whose letter of intent strengthened the foundation for public subsidy and underlined the strategic potential of quantum sensing in healthcare.
