Software Engineer - 1 FTE

What you’ll do
Hardware control & integration
  • Develop software to interface with hardware components (lasers, scanners, stages, detectors).
  • Implement precise timing, synchronization, and control workflows for confocal imaging systems.
Image processing & analysis
  • Design and implement algorithms for image processing, analysis, and 3D visualization.
  • Collaborate with optics engineers and scientists to translate measurement needs into robust software features.
Data management & User interfaces
  • Build efficient pipelines for handling large microscopy datasets.
  • Develop user-friendly interfaces for instrument control and data visualization.
Cross-Functional collaboration
  • Work closely with hardware engineers and scientists.
  • Participate in defining the product roadmap and translating customer requirements into technical solutions.
What we're looking for
Essential
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Strong programming skills in languages commonly used in scientific or instrument software (e.g., Python, C++).
  • Experience developing software for hardware control, instrumentation, or scientific applications.
  • Solid understanding of image acquisition, image processing, or computer vision techniques.
  • Proficiency in software engineering best practices such as version control and automated testing.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative startup environment.
Desirable
  • Experience with software for embedded systems.
  • Experience developing software for confocal or other optical microscopy systems.
  • Familiarity with open-source microscopy software ecosystems (e.g., Micro-Manager, ImageJ/FIJI).
  • Background in designing intuitive UX/UI for scientific applications.
